Jury Information
We want to thank you and express the appreciation of the Court and our community for your willingness to serve as a juror.
For more than 150 years, parties to civil and criminal actions have been guaranteed the right to a jury trial by the Constitutions for the State of Ohio and the United States of America. The jury trial is the bedrock of the unique system of justice in our country and is a crucial component of our democracy where ordinary citizens actively participate in the legal process and serve as a check against government overreach. Accordingly, our jury system is the physical embodiment of “rule by the people.”
We are mindful of the significant sacrifice of time caused by your service, but if citizens stopped performing this vital civic duty of fairly and impartially administering justice, we risk losing our legally guaranteed freedoms. More importantly, however, our entire system of democracy could ultimately fail. So, again, on behalf of the court and our community, we thank you for your service.
You will have received a letter and questionnaire from the court. This signifies that you have been selected to serve on the Court’s current six-month jury term. Please complete the questionnaire and return it pursuant to the instructions. If you are selected to actually serve on a jury during your term, you will receive a separate notice, in the form of a Summons, with the specific date and time to report.
While the length of trials varies, most trials are resolved within one to two days. When you arrive at the courthouse, you will check in with the Clerk of Courts on the first floor and receive additional instructions.
You may check the status of the trial after 4:00 p.m. the day before you are scheduled to report by visiting the “Jury Schedule & Reporting” link on this site. If the case that is set for trial has been resolved or postponed, you will not need to report on the scheduled date and time. This advisement will be set forth clearly on Jury Schedule & Reporting page, so please check the site before reporting. If the trial for which you have been summonsed is scheduled to proceed, that information will be provided as well.
