Community Service
Community Service is a sanction the court can impose as a condition of probation. The court imposes this sanction as a form of reparation, and as an opportunity for rehabilitation. The Lawrence County Adult Probation Department has developed an in-house Community Service program that affords offenders the opportunity to give back to our local community. Participants perform a specific number of court-ordered hours as a condition of probation using productive
labor to apply principles of accountability and restitution.
The Lawrence County Adult Probation Department has developed a network of governmental and non-profit organizations throughout the county that participate in the program. In addition, the department operates a working farm in the county with labor from the community service workers. After harvest, the food grown on the farm is donated to needy individuals and service centers throughout Lawrence County.
If you see a need for community service work in your area, please feel free to contact the Lawrence County Adult Probation Department at 740-533-4380.
