Drug Court Program
The Nexus Recovery Docket is a specialized drug court in the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas that was created by Judge Andrew P. Ballard in an effort to combat the substance use crisis plaguing our community.
The docket was the first of its kind in Lawrence County and serves its mission by enhancing public safety through the reduction of recidivism; assisting participants in taking responsibility for their behavioral health issues by turning them from a path of self-destruction to a path of recovery; creating community programs that meet the needs of participants; and using evidence-based practices in intervention and treatment. It is a highly structured program that demands accountability from participants in order to avoid incarceration or other sanctions.
The docket is supported by the Court of Common Pleas General and Juvenile/Probate Divisions, and its Bureau of Community Corrections, the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and Drug Task Force, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, the Lawrence County legal defense bar, NECCO, local substance abuse and mental health counselors and various faith-based and social organizations located in the County.
