  • You can find out your court date the following ways:

    • You will be sent a summons letter prior to your scheduled appearance that contains the date you are required to present to the court.

    • Access the Jurors section of this website.

    • Contact the Lawrence County Court of Common Please office at (740) 533-4329

  • In the event of the death of a family member and a jury summons letter is sent to the deceased individual, you must contact the Lawrence County Board of Elections and proceed with filing a notification of death form.  Once filed, please contact our office to confirm the filing.

  • Yes, but given the formal nature of court sessions, it might be more appropriate to make other arrangements for your children. If you do bring children, they cannot be disruptive to the proceedings.

  • Free parking spaces are located around the courthouse. You should arrive early to allow time for locating a parking space.

  • Yes, there is handicapped access located along the Center Street parking spaces.

  • The court is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except for holidays.

  • All individuals, other than authorized court personnel, entering the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas must pass through a security check, including a metal detector. Guns, knives and weapons of any type are not allowed in the courthouse.

  • Your attire in the courtroom should reflect the seriousness and dignity of the judicial process. Do not wear the following to court: clothing containing words, pictures or symbols that are obscene, profane, or sexually suggestive, anything associated with drugs, alcohol or gangs, halter tops, tank tops, see-through tops, bare-midriff tops, swim wear, lingerie, pajamas, pants that allow undergarments or bare skin to show such as low cut hip-huggers and loose fitting pants that expose boxer shorts, flip-flops or other overly causal items.

  • All cell phones must be turned off upon entering the courtrooms. Only attorneys or the media may use computers or other electronic devices in the courtrooms as necessary for their work. Failure to comply may result in confiscation of devices for the duration of an individual’s presence in the courthouse.​

  • The filing fee schedule is available on the Lawrence County Clerk of Court’s website or by calling the Clerk of Courts at (740) 533-4355.

  • Judge Andrew Ballard conducts hearings in courtroom 1 located on the third floor of the courthouse annex.

     

    Judge Christen Finley conducts hearings in courtroom 2 located on the third floor of the courthouse annex.

     

    Magistrate D.L. McWhorter conducts hearings in courtroom 1 on the second floor of the courthouse annex.

     

    The security officer located at the entrance of the building can direct you to the appropriate courtroom based on the assigned judge or magistrate.
